Description:

The Knoxville Whirlpool Whirlwinds running club is proud to present the inaugural Knoxville L.E.A.P. 5k and Kid’s Mile. Race proceeds will benefit the Knoxville Ladies of Charity and their community emergency assistance programs.  This is a family friendly event; runners and walkers are welcome!

The race will take place on May 6th, 2017 on Neyland Drive in downtown Knoxville. The Kid’s Mile will begin at 8:00 am and the 5k will begin at 8:30 am.  Awards ceremony will be held at approximately 9:15 am.  A post-race vendor expo will be held from 8:30 – 11:00 am at Volunteer Landing.

Awards:

All registered finishers of the Kid’s Mile will receive a finisher’s medal.

Overall awards for the top three male and female finishers and top male and female masters (40+). Age group awards for top 3 male and female finishers in the following age groups: 0-9, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 & over.

Pre-Race Pickup: TBD.  Race day registration 7:00am to 8:00am.

Course Description:  USATF certified course # TN09040MS. The course is a flat, fast, out and back course on Neyland Drive alongside the TN River. Participants will begin on Neyland Drive near Calhoun’s on the River and head west towards the UT Agriculture Campus. They will then turn around and return to the finish line.

T-shirts: Pre-registered 5k participants will receive short-sleeved 50/50 poly-cotton blend, t-shirts on race day or at early packet pickup. Late registrants will receive shirts as supplies last.

Post-Race Expo: Join us for a post-race expo with multiple vendors demonstrating / offering goods and services, many at race-special pricing!

Refreshments:  There will be a water stop on the 5k course, along with post-race refreshments

Race Etiquette: Due to insurance regulations, roller blades, bicycles and dogs are not allowed on the course. Headphones are discouraged.
