This run has been organized to help raise funds for Restavek Freedom Foundation. As well as create community awareness about child trafficking. The Restavek Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization that is trying to help end child slavery in Haiti.
There are 300,000 child slaves in Haiti today. These children are sexually, physically, and emotionally abused. They are required to get up before anyone in the house and do chores, cook, clean, do laundry and are malnourished themselves. These children do not receive any medical care or education of any kind. They grow up with little chance to change the course of their futures. These children desperately need our help to end child slavery and to make a lasting difference in their lives.
Our goals are to raise awareness in our community as well as funding for this charity. We are asking you to join us in this fundraising effort and to help save these children from slavery.
Tomorrow morning in Haiti, a child will wake up to cook food she will never eat and wash clothes she will never wear. She will fetch food from the market and water from the well, all for a family that isn't hers, that will probably never treat her as one of their own.
Her name is Nadine, age 9. Or it's Fernande, age 7, or Doudane, age 14.
She is, like more than 300,000 other children in Haiti, a restavek.
